Clothing Drive – Center for Transformative Change (CTC)

By Announcements, Community Service, Values

Good afternoon all,

The Community Service Subcommittee is excited to announce our first order of business!

The INN is proud to announce the highly anticipated launch of the Center for Transformative Change (CTC), a unique facility located immediately adjacent to the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen in Hempstead. CTC serves as a Resource Center to assist guests of the soup kitchen to improve their life circumstances and/or become self-sufficient. The facility also houses a Clothing Boutique, where guests can acquire free clothing, including business attire for interviews or a new job, and housewares. ALL GENTLY USED CLOTHING ITEMS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED, including suits, dresses, shirts, shoes, handbags, ties, and belts. They are also in need of youth khakis and navy polo type shirts, as Hempstead schools are now using a dress code that many parents are having trouble affording.

A collection box will be placed in the lobby of the third floor of the Woodbury office for donations, beginning on Tuesday the 16th through Friday the 26th. Susan Warhurst’s youth group will be sorting and hanging the clothing items on Saturday, February 27th and then bringing the donations to the INN. Thank you, Susan, for presenting SterlingRisk such a wonderful opportunity for generosity and for donating so much of your own time. You are truly living the values!

I encourage everyone to take a moment during this long holiday weekend to pull some items from your wardrobe for such a worthy cause. Thank you so much in advance for the Care & Respect you will be showing through your generous donations to those less fortunate in our community!

Our New Values Sub Committees

By Announcements, Communications, Company Announcement, Values

Happy Friday all! We are pleased to announce our new Values Sub Committees and their goals for 2016. If you have any suggestions or ideas for the teams, please reach out to the team leads:

Performance Management – Goals for 2016 will be to focus on setting metrics for each position within the organization, and set individual goals, as well as department goals. This may evolve into a separate module within the Performance Management program. In addition, we will create and implement a 30 and 90 day review for new hires.

Lead – Jillian Menna
Maegan Carley
Craig Herbst
Genie Klimkowski
Robert Grassi
Carlo Caringal

Reward & Recognition – Goals for 2016 will be focusing on moving the Values Care Card program online, and adding other layers to the program as well. The online integration is a fun way to get everyone more involved, and a chance to let all employees recognize their peers for living the values. We also have the difficult task of raising the bar set by our 2015 Living the Values Award presentation! 

Lead – Jeff Marino
Olivia Rodriguez
Matt Stein
Jami Todisco
Lia Krautmanis

Communication – Goals for 2016 will be to keep SterlingRisk informed, entertained and involved. We intend to make STRIVE a prominent base for our communications and develop fun reminders to visit it regularly. We want to facilitate sharing departmental information going forward as well. We look forward to a wonderful Value-enhanced 2016.

Co-Leads – Tammy Kuhl and Marguerite Wolfe
Nick Toscano
Larry Rowe
Steve Schiffer
Matt Auer

Hiring – Goals for 2016 are to build off of what the committee has already begun, continuing to make our onboarding experience one that embodies all our Values. We have so many great ideas to incorporate and implement.

Lead – Michelle Soto
Jeremy Sterling
Mike Tampone
Helen Behek
Brad Dubler
Mary Beth Coursen

Our new Sub Committees:

Wellness –Goals for 2016 will focus on ways to introduce continued health and wellness to our valued employees. From uncovering information embedded in our own health insurance program to prolonged weight loss and beneficial nutrition strategies to innovative ways to bring exercise into the work place, we are enthusiastic to get up and get moving!

Lead – Marci Waterman
Sonia Cristales
Hal Cabasso
Karin Governale
Denise Ricardo
Alicia Prestia

Community Service – Goals for 2016 will be to organize, promote, and encourage volunteering and charitable giving among our co-workers. We would like to organize at least one volunteering event per quarter (though probably not the first quarter). In addition to these events, we will also plan other smaller events throughout the year – a food drive, a blood drive, etc., all staggered throughout the year. We would also like to look into teaming up with the Wellness Subcommittee on getting a “running team” together to participate in a 5k race for charity, and if it is a success, other races.

Co-Leads – Tom Murray and Erin Sussman

Cooking Kindness Served By SterlingRisk

By Community Service

On Saturday, November 21st, a group of SterlingRisk volunteers prepared dinner and dessert at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island in New Hyde Park. The Ronald McDonald House is a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children. The house that love built is for families whose children are receiving medical attention in local hospitals. It was an incredible experience and the gift of kindness and heart that was shared, could not be more fitting at a time of year we give thanks for all the blessings we have in our lives.

Kudos to Tracey for championing this, as well as Ronica, Kristina, Ruth and Nadine. I know they were here late last night putting the final touches on the room. If you haven’t already stopped by the room, make sure you take a moment and peek in. There are some tempting Halloween treats to purchase, as part of our Hope for Youth fundraising efforts. Summer Flextime Program

By Announcements, Human Resources

It’s almost summertime and the Summer Flextime Program at SterlingRisk is back!!! The Summer Flextime Program is a work schedule that allows employees to leave at 1pm (on six Fridays during the designated twelve-week program) every other Friday for six designated weeks. The week of July 4th is not an eligible flex work week as we are closed Friday, July 3rd.

From Monday thru Thursday of their Flex-Friday week, each employee that chooses to participate, will add ½ hour to their work day and take a daily abbreviated ½ hour lunch. “Banking” this time from Monday thru Thursday will allow that employee to leave at 1:00pm on Friday.

A typical summer flextime arrangement may be:
· Monday through Thursday 8:30 – 5:00 with a half hour abbreviated lunch each of the four days worked;
· Or Monday through Thursday 9:00 – 5:30 with a half hour abbreviated lunch each of the four days worked.
· On the Friday during the week in which the summer flextime is worked, you will work from 9:00 – 1:00, and may leave at 1:00 pm (“summer half day”).

This schedule must be approved by your Manager. This will be a team approach, so team members that have been identified to be backups for each other, may not both select the same week to exercise their flextime. In other words, team members must cover for each other, so that our clients continued to be serviced.

Managers will be coordinating this schedule with their team in a way that results in six summer half days for each team member during the twelve week period of June 5h through August 28th. Again, this allows each team member the opportunity for six summer half days.

Do’s
· Communicate your interest to your Manager in participating in this pilot program.
· If you are participating in the program, make sure your backup is indicated on your out of office (both internally and externally) and voice mail on your summer half day.
· Commit to the set six summer full Fridays.
· Have fun and utilize this time to enjoy the summer!

Don’ts
You cannot take a summer half day on a week you have PTO planned.
If you use an unplanned PTO the week of your scheduled summer half day, you will need to reschedule your summer half day.
You cannot combine a ½ day PTO and summer half day together for a full day off.
Don’t worry, if there is a client need and you are unable to take your scheduled summer half day, your Manager will work with you and a new summer half day will be assigned.

Keep showing your Values colors!

Any questions? Feel free to reach out to Lilian or myself.
