SterlingRisk Values Seen Through the Storm

By Announcements, Company Announcement, Values

Matt Auer, Craig Herbst, Larry Rowe, Jeremy Sterling, and Sebally Queylin assisted many of our Woodbury employees by helping to dig out their cars from the parking lot. We appreciate your assistance and going above and beyond in your day to day to help your coworkers. Denise Ricardo also used exhibited Care & Respect by using her giant muscles to help dig her fellow employees out!

Our New Values Sub Committees

By Announcements, Communications, Company Announcement, Values

Happy Friday all! We are pleased to announce our new Values Sub Committees and their goals for 2016. If you have any suggestions or ideas for the teams, please reach out to the team leads:

Performance Management – Goals for 2016 will be to focus on setting metrics for each position within the organization, and set individual goals, as well as department goals. This may evolve into a separate module within the Performance Management program. In addition, we will create and implement a 30 and 90 day review for new hires.

Lead – Jillian Menna
Maegan Carley
Craig Herbst
Genie Klimkowski
Robert Grassi
Carlo Caringal

Reward & Recognition – Goals for 2016 will be focusing on moving the Values Care Card program online, and adding other layers to the program as well. The online integration is a fun way to get everyone more involved, and a chance to let all employees recognize their peers for living the values. We also have the difficult task of raising the bar set by our 2015 Living the Values Award presentation! 

Lead – Jeff Marino
Olivia Rodriguez
Matt Stein
Jami Todisco
Lia Krautmanis

Communication – Goals for 2016 will be to keep SterlingRisk informed, entertained and involved. We intend to make STRIVE a prominent base for our communications and develop fun reminders to visit it regularly. We want to facilitate sharing departmental information going forward as well. We look forward to a wonderful Value-enhanced 2016.

Co-Leads – Tammy Kuhl and Marguerite Wolfe
Nick Toscano
Larry Rowe
Steve Schiffer
Matt Auer

Hiring – Goals for 2016 are to build off of what the committee has already begun, continuing to make our onboarding experience one that embodies all our Values. We have so many great ideas to incorporate and implement.

Lead – Michelle Soto
Jeremy Sterling
Mike Tampone
Helen Behek
Brad Dubler
Mary Beth Coursen

Our new Sub Committees:

Wellness –Goals for 2016 will focus on ways to introduce continued health and wellness to our valued employees. From uncovering information embedded in our own health insurance program to prolonged weight loss and beneficial nutrition strategies to innovative ways to bring exercise into the work place, we are enthusiastic to get up and get moving!

Lead – Marci Waterman
Sonia Cristales
Hal Cabasso
Karin Governale
Denise Ricardo
Alicia Prestia

Community Service – Goals for 2016 will be to organize, promote, and encourage volunteering and charitable giving among our co-workers. We would like to organize at least one volunteering event per quarter (though probably not the first quarter). In addition to these events, we will also plan other smaller events throughout the year – a food drive, a blood drive, etc., all staggered throughout the year. We would also like to look into teaming up with the Wellness Subcommittee on getting a “running team” together to participate in a 5k race for charity, and if it is a success, other races.

Co-Leads – Tom Murray and Erin Sussman
Danielle Croce
Howard Tollin
Jennie Racanelli
Melissa Gross
Monica Bustamante
Stephen Rosenberg
Rory Natter

Reminder about proper protocols for requesting assistance from I.T. Support

By Announcements, Company Announcement

Hello all,

We hope that you are doing well and just wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the proper protocols for requesting assistance from the I.T. Support Team. These protocols apply to all SterlingRisk employees regarding any issues or questions related to Hardware, Software, Telephones, or other I.T. related items. They help to ensure that we can respond to everyone’s requests in as timely and effective a manner as possible, and we appreciate your continued cooperation in this effort:

  • All I.T. related requests/inquiries should be submitted via a Help Desk Request through our online Web Help Desk ticketing system ( URL: https://helpdesk.sterlingrisk.com ). Since the Web Help Desk system is accessible from any location that has Internet access ( including on smart phones and other handheld devices ), this applies even when working remotely or having trouble connecting from outside the office. If your request is Urgent, then please just mark it as such. If you feel you need to clarify the Urgency beyond what you have entered in the ticket, then please just call the Help Desk line at 516-719-8747 and include any additional information that you feel is necessary.
  • When submitting your request, please be as DETAILED AS POSSIBLE in the description of the problem that you are having (including specific workflows, error messages and screenshots if appropriate). The more information that is provided in the ticket, the more quickly a resolution can be provided.
  • In the rare circumstance when the Web Help Desk may not be accessible to you for some reason (such as a problem with your computer not turning on, your account being locked out, or you have no access to the Internet), then you should call the Help Desk voicemail at 516-719-8747 and leave a detailed message about your issue.
  • Please try to refrain from sending emails to or leaving voicemails for I.T. staff members directly, unless it is a follow up to an open issue, and/or they have asked you to do so. This will prevent any unnecessary delays should that particular member be working on another issue or be otherwise unavailable (ie: In a meeting, out to lunch, etc). When requests are submitted through the online ticketing system, ALL I.T. members are notified about the issue immediately, which ensures you will get the fastest response possible.

The Help Desk ticketing system is the most efficient way for you to report your issue, and will ensure the fastest response to your question/problem. With some of the recent modifications that have been made (including accessibility from outside the office, logins/passwords now matching network credentials, and approvals available via smart phones), it is now easier than ever to submit a request. Most requests can be submitted in under a minute or so, and even complex requests involving detailed notes and screen shots should only take a couple of minutes at most to submit (certainly no more time then calling and leaving a voicemail or even sending an email, neither of which captures much of the relevant information that is needed to work on many requests).

In addition to requesting assistance, you can also use the FAQ section of the Help Desk to find solutions to common problems/questions (such as downloading instructions for things like connecting via Remote Desktop ( FAQ#6 ), or information on using the Postini Message Center ( FAQ#1 ). It’s also now used for Corporate Services requests, and could potentially expand to more areas in the future.

In any case, as always we appreciate the CARE & RESPECT that everyone shows in continuing to follow the above guidelines. This allows us to continue to serve you with the EXCELLENCE and INTEGRITY that you deserve, as well as to provide you with even more INNOVATIVE products and solutions. We look forward to the ongoing COLLABORATION of efforts to keep SterlingRisk a great place to work.

Thanks as always,
SterlingRisk I.T. Dept.

Unplanned PTO

By Announcements, Company Announcement

We are updating our PTO Call in Policy slightly. The definition of Care & Respect in our Values Blueprint is “A passion for supporting our colleagues, partners, clients and community”. This is difficult to do so when our colleagues and clients are unaware of an employee absence. The protocol as of 10/1/14 will be as follows:

Notification of the unplanned absence must be made any time before 8:45 am.

If the Team Leader/Manager is unavailable, then the absent employee must leave a message in the Team Leader/Manager’s voicemail box to report their absence and indicate any pending work issues that need to be handled in their absence. An email is acceptable only if the Team Leader/Manager is unavailable. TEXT messages are not acceptable methods of notification.

The receptionist must also be notified of the absence by the absent employee. The absent employee must call into Reception between 9:15 – 9:30 am. This is extremely important so that the receptionist is aware of the absence when directing client calls. The absent employee should indicate to the receptionist who the back employee will be while they are out of the office. This is extremely important when directing incoming client inquiries.

Absent employees must make sure to change their out of office, both externally and internally to the organization, as well as their voice mail message indicating who their back up contact is. If an absent employee does not have access to email, please advise the Team Leader/Manager so that this can be done for the absent employee.

If you are unable to reach your Team Leader/Manager for any reason regarding your absence, please contact Human Resources and speak with either Donna or Lilian on their direct line.

The absent employee is responsible to enter time out of the office, due to their absence, into Soft Time immediately upon their return to the office.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Donna or Lilian.
